If Delhi’s trees and streets could talk, the stories that would pour out of Delhi would keep listenersmesmerized for years. With a history as a capital, Delhi has seen the tides of several rulers from those that people the pages of the epic poem, Mahabharata to the Tughlaq and Mughal empires from Persia, from the imperial colonial armies to the present-day government. Looted, plundered, and resurrected over the years, Delhi emerges from the ashes of her past to take her place in the world as a global capital \u2013 politically, culturally and commercially.
\nThis morning after breakfast we will start our day with a colonial walk of New Delhi<\/strong>, a city that largely owes its present-day avatar to a man named Edwin Lutyens, a man best known for adapting traditional architecture to contemporary styles. Head towards the India Gate, <\/strong>a monument commemorating the deaths of over 70,000 Indian soldiers in the British Forces during the World War I. Older British buildings that were used as power hubs house today\u2019s Parliament <\/strong>and Secretariat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thereafter we begin our exploration of Old Delhi<\/strong>. The fabled city of Shahjahanabad, with its colourful streets continues to enchant her visitors to this day.\u00a0 Old Delhi is just not a cultural hub but is also home to some of the world\u2019s exquisite spices and street food.<\/p>\n

\"RajasthanHeading down Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, partly on foot, partly by cycle-rickshaw, one can palpably experience the sacred yet secular way of life that is so typical of India. Interestingly, apart from the assortment of stores selling everything from jewelry to sarees, numerous eateries have also been established along these bylanes that add flavor (literally!) to the old market – and tangibly evoke a sense of history.<\/p>\n

From the delectable ‘jalebis’ – wheat batter pretzels steeped in sugar syrup that are popular as ‘zulbias’ in the Middle East and Africa, to the ‘rabrifalooda’, a traditional cold beverage made of rose syrup, vermicelli, basil seeds, tapioca pearls and pieces of gelatin with milk or water that can trace its roots to Persia, the walk down Chandni Chowk is a sensory overload. We end our journey of old Delhi at Khari Baoli<\/strong>, Asia\u2019s largest wholesale spice market.<\/p>\n

\"Rajasthan<\/p>\n

After lunch we will drive to the Humayun\u2019s Tomb<\/strong> and step back into time, as we visit this 16th<\/sup> Century tomb built for the second Mughal emperor, Humayun. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, an older tomb of Inayat Khan, and a functioning masjid, the Humayun\u2019s tomb is a lovely relic from the past.<\/p>\n

This afternoon will be at your leisure for shopping. <\/strong>With its delightful bazaars and markets that range from pavement shops to multi brand malls, India is a shoppers haven. Not only is the country famous for its range of traditional arts, jewelry and handicrafts, you will also find great deals in branded luxury goods.<\/p>\n

Day 3 :\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Delhi – Agra\u00a0 <\/strong>Journey Time \u2013 3.5 to 4 hours drive

This morning after breakfast commence your drive to Agra a city of Taj and on arrival check into your Hotel.<\/p>\n

The origins of the city of Agra can be traced back to the days of the Mahabharata, the epic poem of Great India when it was called Agrevana, meaning \u2018the edge of the forest\u2019. Agra served as capital for the Mughal Empire during the 16th and 17th centuries and flourished as a centre of art, drawing inspiration from Persian, Islamic, Turkish, Byzantine and Indian styles. It has been immortalized ever since by the Taj Mahal \u2013 a magnificent marble mausoleum that epitomises love, yet Agra has so many more monuments that tell a rich narrative of the tides and times of Man.<\/p>\n

After lunch visit Agra Fort – <\/strong>on the right bank of the Yamuna river, is one of the most important and robustly built stronghold of the Mughals, embellished with a number of richly decorated buildings \u2013 the Agra Fort. Let our guide tell you the rich, evocative Mughal history of Agra Fort, where emperors like Babar, Humayun, Akbar, among other historic characters take centrestage.<\/p>\n

Ramathra Fort <\/strong>The fort, the lake and the spectacular countryside are the main attractions of Ramathra, however the proximity to two of India\u2019s well-known wildlife reserves at Bharatpur and Ranthambore are a part of its attraction. Within the overwhelming walls that make up the fort\u2019s perimeter stands a beautiful palace with guest accommodations of six beautifully designed luxury tents, set against the fort ramparts. The tents are stylish and spacious with large windows. Bird watching, boating, kayaking, nature walks and temple visits are among the popular activities at the fort.<\/p>\n

Later, you can set off for a visit of village. Meet villagers and see their homes as they tend small plots in the fertile valley or herd cattle on the Daang scrub. Several stops are planned when crossing the Daang for photography and animal-spotting, making the journey as fun and interesting as the destination. Erected during the 18th Century by the ruler of Amer as a \u2018city of victory\u2019, Jaipur was north India\u2019s first planned city. Jaipur is often known as the \u2018pink city\u2019; some say because of the distinctive rosy sandstone used in its construction, others claim it was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales. Either way, the city is a beautiful symphony of the history with the present; well expressed in the planned, gridded network of streets juxtaposed with a bustling maze of by-lanes and bazaars, the traditional artisanal crafts offset against contemporary arts.<\/p>\n

Today, you can take in Jaipur\u2019s most famous landmarks: the Amber Fort, <\/strong>the citadel of the Kachhawaha clan who later became the rulers of Jaipur. With its sprawling apartments, pleasure gardens, and temples, Amer is one of the most intricate and beautiful Rajput fortresses in all of India.<\/p>\n

In the after afternoon visit the City Palace followed by the Observatory and explore the city bustling Bazars. Jaipur is a city of vibrant colors and the colorful bazaars offer great opportunity for shopping. It is known for its handicrafts, textiles, leather ware, antiques, gems and jewelry. Jaipur is one of the largest ornament making centers in India and its \u2018enamel\u2019 and \u2018inlay\u2019 work with gems are the two traditional techniques for which it is most famous.<\/p>\n

Sardar Bazaar, as it is known, has several beautiful havelis primarily made of red sandstone. Follow this with a visit to the vegetable market \u2013 where the colours and varieties of local produce from gourds to beans, from leafy greens to tubers will showcase tropical produce at its best.<\/p>\n

Epitomizing the romance and feudal splendor of Rajasthan with the majestic Meherangarh Fort towering over it, the city of Jodhpur was once a flourishing trade centre for opium, silk and copper. Painted a brilliant shade of blue, Jodhpur is the last bastion of fort ramparts, colourful bazaars, animated people with their storytelling traditions before the desert sands and dunes stretch away towards the horizon.<\/p>\n

This morning after breakfast you can visit Meherangarh Fort, one of the most majestic of Rajasthan\u2019s forts, described by the author Rudyard Kipling as \u201cthe creation of angels, fairies and giants\u201d. \u00a0Its forbidding ramparts are in sharp contrast to the flamboyantly decorated palaces within. Founded in 1459, the sandstone fort was added to by later rulers between 17th and 19th centuries.<\/p>\n

Located in the heart of a typical Rajasthan village bustling with activity and bursting with color, the Rawla fortress is an oasis of serenity offering a splendid\u00a0view of a gigantic 350 foot high granite rock dotted with caves and temples. \u00a0The rock is crowned by a statue of a white elephant serving as proud guardian to the open desert on one side and the crumbling Aravalli hills on the other. \u00a0Ten years of thoughtful restoration and reconstruction are behind the authenticity of the heritage rooms with features such as ancient wall paintings and stone screen windows for example.<\/p>\n

You can explore Narlai with a walk around the village. A hotel staff will take you around the village so that access to local homes allows an insight into their lives.<\/p>\n

Day 10 :\u00a0\u00a0Narlai – Ranakpur <\/strong> (1 hour drive) –\u00a0ranakpur – Udaipur <\/strong>(2.5 hour drive)

Optional <\/strong>: If interested in hiking, then in morning you can climb over 750 steps (40mins easy walk up) to the top of the Elephant Rock (called so as there is a 12 foot elephant statue right at the top).<\/p>\n

Later you will commence your drive to Udaipur with enroute stop at Ranakpur Temples <\/strong>set in a secluded, wooded valley of the Aravalli Hills (opens at 12 noon).<\/p>\n

The 15th-century Ranakpur Temple\u2019s grand scale, architectural complexity and sculptural ornamentation rank it among the finest examples of temple architecture. The main temple is dedicated to the founder of the Jainism and Ranakpur is one among five holy places for the Jain followers.<\/p>\n

Udaipur\u2019s serene lakes, beautiful gardens and magnificent palaces lend it a nostalgia that has often earned it the acclaim of being one of the most romantic places in the world. Apartfrom a place in history, Udaipur has been immortalized in contemporary culture in iconic films from Jewel in the Crown, James Bond\u2019s Octopussy to Gandhi.<\/p>\n

This morning explore the City Palace, <\/strong>with its blend of stern Rajput military architecture and lavish Mughalinspired decorative art. This is the largest palace in Rajasthan sprawled out over an area of 5 acres, built between the 16th and 20th centuries.<\/p>\n

Then continue on to the Jagdish Temple, <\/strong>a three-storied wonder of architecture comprising of an intricately sculpted spire, beautifully carved pillars, decorated ceilings and painted walls dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the sustainer in Hindu mythology.<\/p>\n
